Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Available

The Haptics Lab is seeking to hire a post-doctoral fellow to lead an NIH-funded project that studies the neural mechanisms that mediate how objects are sensed and manipulated with the hands. The project follows up on a series of human psychophysical studies on how reference frame signals regulate integration of tactile and proprioceptive inputs to generate reference frame-specific representations of tactile objects. The postdoctoral fellow will perform single-unit recording studies in NHPs trained on tactile discrimination tasks. Recordings will be performed in somatosensory cortices (SI and SII) and multisensory areas in post-parietal cortex (e.g., VIP). The postdoc fellow will also engage in different computational work in the form of population decoding analyses and neural modeling of single-unit data.

We offer highly competitive postdoctoral stipends, as well as performance-related bonuses at the end of the year. There are also ample opportunities to enhance career and professional development skills in the form of conference presentations (e.g., attendance to SFN), penmanship (e.g., grant and manuscript writing), teaching, and outreach. Our lab is heavily involved in outreach efforts through the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience Diversity Commission, which is chaired by the principal investigator (PI) of the Haptics Lab.

Candidates interested in the position should contact Dr. Manuel Gomez-Ramirez (Manny) via email (mgomezra@ur.rochester.edu) or X (formerly known as Twitter, @gomezramirezm).

Please send your CV, and a 1-page statement describing your prior work, research interests, and long-term career goals.
